Strategies and innovations for the development of EuroVelo 8 in Croatia
Establishing a quality cycle tourism route is conceived as a tool for connecting the entire Mediterranean region according to sustainable transport and tourism principles. The project has carried out numerous activities, such as evaluating the existing route and mapping new sections, developing transnational and national action plans for better integration of the route into the future development and financial framework of key stakeholders in the countries along the route, developing and installing pilot signage, analysing route usage and economic potential, developing websites and mobile applications, and creating and implementing a cycle-friendly program.
Some of the key project results in Croatia are the EuroVelo 8 route development action plan, which defines strategies and proposes specific measures and activities for further development and improvement of the route, and a website dedicated to the Croatian part of the route, available at www.eurovelo8.hr. The website provides detailed technical and tourist information about the route and its sections and will help better plan trips for domestic and foreign cycle tourists.
