Reinventing the Wheel

Green and digital transition: Kenda Manufacturing HR as a sustainable industry leader

Kenda Manufacturing HR approached Eupolis Group for support in finding solutions to modernise the factory’s production process. Collaborating with experts, management, and development consultants, a series of meetings and workshops defined an agile factory development and fundraising plan. In addition to technological interventions, this plan included interventions aimed at the integrated green transition of the production facility and the factory process in Beli Manastir.

The factory in Beli Manastir is the largest European factory of the Kenda Tires Group. Kenda Tires manufactures tyres and wheels with facilities in Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Europe. Kenda is the 26th largest tyre company in the world, with more than 11,000 employees and a turnover of close to one billion euros. The factory in Beli Manastir produces steel wheels for special-purpose vehicles (e.g. agriculture, horticulture, municipal companies, special firefighting vehicles, etc.).

The project “Reinventing the Wheel—Agile Integrated Technological and Green Transition of KENDA Manufacturing HR into a Leading Regional Lean and Green Steel Forming Factory” was designed by Eupolis Group, KENDA management and expert advisors.

The project was launched in mid-2023 and includes investments in technology, processes, and people to position Kenda Manufacturing HR as a leader in green and smart innovations. The total value of the project amounts to approximately €4.5 million. Grant funding has been secured through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Additional investments were enabled through a special development loan from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and Kenda’s own funds.

Through this project, Kenda has improved the energy efficiency of its factory, installed solar panels, reduced waste and environmental pollution, and implemented new technologies such as robotics and digitally controlled wheel production. These initiatives contribute to enhanced productivity, adaptability, and quality, as well as a healthier working environment, ultimately creating social and economic value.

EuPolis Split was our first major investment project in spatial development and public-private partnership. It represented the first experiment in integrated urban development based on the principles of wise spaces.

In the late 1990s, following the end of the Croatian War of Independence, the city of Split became a “case city” within Croatia and broader European contexts due to the high rate of hard drug abuse among its youngest population. Experts, politicians, parents, educators, media, and the public were deeply concerned.

After its renovation and opening in 2014, the fortress became a prestigious stage for cultural events and an example of successful regeneration of cultural heritage with the use of EU funds.
