The “Biokovka 5.0” project modernizes the Biokovka Special Hospital in Makarska through energy renovation, solar panels, digitalization and the development of wellness facilities. Worth 9.1 million euros, the project promotes sustainable development and year-round health tourism.

The Biokovka 5.0 project is a strategic project of Split-Dalmatia County that includes the modernisation of business operations, the gradual separation of health and wellness tourism functions from public hospital functions, and the complete green and smart transition of the hospital

The green and digital future of health tourism in Makarska

Our company prepared the application for the Biokovka 5.0 project – The Green and Digital Transition of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation Biokovka for the EU call from the National Recovery and Resilience Programme. The implementation of this project is currently underway.

The Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation Biokovka in Makarska has launched the “Biokovka 5.0” project, which aims to achieve a green and digital transition in developing high-added-value health and wellness tourism. The project’s total value is 9.1 million euros, of which 7.9 million euros were provided through grants from European Union funds.

Steps towards sustainable health tourism in Makarska

The project includes the following activities:

  • Energy renovation of the building : Reconstruction of the facade and replacement of carpentry in order to improve the energy efficiency of the building.
  • Introduction of renewable energy sources : Installation of a photovoltaic power plant for the production of electricity from solar sources.
  • Digitization of business processes : Implementation of advanced digital solutions for the purpose of improving the quality of services and operational efficiency.
  • Development of new health and wellness facilities : Expanding the range of services to meet the growing needs of users for high-quality health tourism.

 

The project partner is the Public Institution Biokovo Nature Park, which will participate through educational, advisory, and marketing activities, as well as preparation and management of the project.

Implementing the “Biokovka 5.0” project will contribute to the development of year-round tourism in the Makarska area, reduce environmental impact, and ensure sustainable destination management. Thus, the Republic of Croatia’s strategic tourism and sustainable development goals will be fulfilled.
